Many apparently local numbers of locksmiths are national companies in disguise!

Your call is directed to a national call centre, who then take your details and attempt to find a locksmith able to come out. They may quote cheap labour charges, but part prices will be inflated to cover the cost of the national company’s costs such as their call centre, advertising and commission. The subcontracting locksmith will only receive a small percentage of what you pay, so they may recommend replacement locks rather than repair in order to increase their cut.

When you call a genuine local commercial locksmith or local domestic locksmith, your call will be answered by a fully qualified locksmith. They will try and establish what the problem is and give you an idea of the expected cost and time for the work. Obviously its difficult to give an accurate quote until we see the lock and assess the work and parts involved in situ. But with no call out charge, work will only be carried out once you have authorised the cost involved, so no surprises.
