When you find yourself locked out of your home or business it is essential you get back in as quickly as possible before stress levels start to rise. The first thing you would normally do in these circumstances is get out your phone, search Google, and call a locksmith. Let’s be honest, as far as most people are concerned, one locksmith is just the same as another. However, that could not be further from the truth as the services, skills and costs of locksmiths can vary massively, with some charging significantly more than others. So we thought we would look at three common myths around locksmiths that can hopefully help ensure you choose the correct one.

Locksmiths Can Pick Locks Easily

Picking certain locks is relatively straightforward and as such can be easily picked by even a locksmith with the most basic skill set. However, there is a wide variety of locking systems on the market and picking these require specialist training, years of experience and practice. A less skilled locksmith will automatically just drill into a lock to open the door causing damage and the need to replace your locks which will come at a significant cost. Alternatively, a fully skilled locksmith will usually be able to get you back into your home without damaging your door or locking mechanism. Our advice is always to look for locksmiths advertising Non-Destructive entry and take note of recommendations. While the initial cost may be slightly higher it is highly likely to save you money in the long run. Luckily, our locksmiths will always unlock your property using Non-Destructive methods, so you can be assured we won’t leave a mess behind!

All Locksmiths Charge About the Same

This could not be further from the truth as charges will often vary widely. For example, large national chains that feature prominently on advertising platforms, such as Google, will often charge up to three times more than your local locksmith. Some locksmiths charge a call-out fee and then charge by the hour. A good, reputable locksmith will usually be able to provide you with an accurate quote for the job in hand when you call them. Our advice is to try and get a guarantee on the maximum price and if possible get a locksmith who doesn’t charge a call-out fee. Remember spending an extra 10 minutes on the phone can save you a fortune. At Forth Locks, we can guarantee the price so that you know just how much to expect, and we don’t charge a call-out fee at all!

Every Locksmith Guarantees Their Work

Not every locksmith uses premium quality parts and locks or provides you with a guarantee for their work. Forth Locks use only the best and most trusted brands like ASEC Security, Chubb Locks, Yale, and ERA Products so you can be assured that they will last.

Always endeavour to choose locksmiths that are members of an accredited association as well, such as Edinburgh Trusted Trader and Checkatrade. These locksmiths have taken the trouble to become accredited and as such will always use the best British standard kite marked locks which themselves carry a guarantee. We are fully accredited by both Edinburgh Trusted Trader and Checkatrade.

While we understand the need to get issues resolved as quickly as possible, always try and take the time to do a little research.. Look on the internet for trusted reviews from past customers, like Trustist, or use recommendations from friends. We’re proud to have a 4.9-star rating on Trustist, meaning all of our customers have felt satisfied with our services.
